Earlier this morning, anyone walking past the corner of 16th Street and Seventh Avenue in New York City would have spotted a stylish crowd of girls and LGBTQ+ individuals gathered outside the former Barneys New York flagship at 101 Seventh Avenue. The young fashion enthusiasts, their line stretching around the block onto 17th Street, were eagerly awaiting entry to the Heaven by Marc Jacobs archive sale. Running until Sunday, the sale also offers discounted pieces from trendy labels like Vaquera, Sandy Liang, Mowalola, and Eckhaus Latta. Many of the shoppers were students, hoping to score deals on the brand’s signature graphic tees and quirky bags—while, of course, showcasing their own curated Heaven-inspired outfits. It was a true fashion-forward camp-out, with groups of kids sitting cross-legged on blankets, patiently waiting to be allowed inside.

Their dedication to nabbing discounted items—Heaven pieces were marked down by as much as 70%—was remarkable, but their fashion choices were equally noteworthy. The event became a street style spectacle, with a crowd sporting oversized jeans, mini skirts with biker boots, Heaven star tees, and Mowalola hats. When the doors finally opened, the real excitement erupted.

Inside, this wasn’t your typical chaotic sample sale with clothes scattered everywhere. The merchandise was neatly arranged across two floors, reminiscent of the way Barneys (R.I.P.) once showcased its luxury items, and was displayed alongside giant purple squirrel sculptures by Robert Crumb. The selection of clothing was vast: Heaven tops in mesh, floral, and camo prints; elegant Sandy Liang coats and dresses featuring Peter Pan collars; edgy Vaquera flannels with built-in lace camisoles; and Mowalola hats emblazoned with large Ms in a McDonald’s-style logo. With Hole blasting through the speakers, shoppers eagerly sifted through the racks, their eyes filled with a mix of panic and excitement.

The scene undoubtedly injected some energy into the city on an otherwise quiet summer Friday. And if you’re curious to witness the excitement firsthand, there’s still time: the sale continues through Sunday, offering you a chance to step into the pearly gates of Heaven yourself.
