Cambridge Club Festival is always eagerly anticipated, and this year’s event did not disappoint. From Friday’s opening acts to Sunday’s grand finale, the festival was a tapestry of diverse musical genres and electrifying performances.

Friday: A Promising Start

The festival kicked off with an impressive lineup, setting the tone for the weekend. Natasha Bedingfield graced the stage with her signature pop anthems. Her vibrant energy and nostalgic hits like “Unwritten” and “These Words” had the crowd singing along in unison, marking a perfect start to the festivities.

Jessie Ware followed, bringing her sophisticated blend of pop and soul. Her sultry voice and heartfelt lyrics created an intimate atmosphere, despite the vastness of the festival grounds. Hits like “Wildest Moments” and “Say You Love Me” resonated deeply with the audience, showcasing her undeniable talent and stage presence.

The Orchard: A DJ’s Paradise

Throughout the weekend, The Discovery Den stage offered a different vibe with its curated DJ sets. Fat Tony, among others, kept the party going with his eclectic mixes. His set was a standout, blending classic house tracks with contemporary beats, ensuring that the dance floor was always packed and pulsating with energy.

Sunday: A Celebration of Black Female Artistry

Sunday was a special day, with a line up of all Black female artists. Despite the unfortunate news that Gabrielle had to pull out due to illness, the lineup remained stellar and did not fail to deliver an unforgettable experience.

Rebecca Ferguson opened her set with her instantly recognisable soulful voice. Her emotive performances of songs like “Nothing’s Real but Love” and “Glitter & Gold” captivated the audience, setting a high bar for the rest of the evening.

Soul II Soul took the stage next, bringing their timeless sound to the festival. Their classic hits, including “Back to Life” and “Keep on Movin’,” transported the crowd back to the late ’80s and early ’90s. The fusion of R&B, funk, and soul had everyone dancing and reminiscing, creating a joyful and communal atmosphere.

The highlight of Sunday was undoubtedly the legendary Chaka Khan. Her presence alone was enough to electrify the festival grounds. With a career spanning decades, her performance was a masterclass in showmanship and vocal prowess. Hits like “I’m Every Woman” and “Ain’t Nobody” were delivered with the energy and charisma that only Chaka Khan can bring. The crowd’s adoration was palpable, and her performance was a fitting climax to the weekend.

This year’s festival was a triumph of musical diversity and talent. Each day offered something unique, from the nostalgic pop of Natasha Bedingfield and Jessie Ware’s soulful ballads to the high-energy DJ sets in the orchard and the powerful performances on Sunday. Despite Gabrielle’s absence, the celebration of Black female artists on the final day was a testament to their incredible impact and contribution to music. The festival not only entertained but also inspired, leaving attendees with unforgettable memories and a deep appreciation for the artists who graced the stage.
